Box Score The last time the St. Catherine Unviersity basketball team picked up a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win it had to battle for every point against Macalester College until the young squad was able to pull away in the final minute. This time around, the Wildcats were able to come away with a 49-43 win – again by a six point margin – thanks to a 28-point scoring performance from
LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn.) Saturday afternoon at the Leonard Center in St. Paul.
Holt – who was held to just six point against Saint Mary's University on Wednesday – scored 28 points for hersecond -straight Saturday career-best performance to lead the Wildcats to their first victory since the two teams' last meeting on Jan. 18. Her double-digit scoring performance was her 16th of the season and a game-high. She went an impressive 4-for-6 from 3-point range and also collected nine rebounds and two assists.
After finding themselves down by one at halftime, the Wildcats managed to outscore their opponent 30-23 in the second half thanks to an 11-of-17 perfromance from the charity stripe in the final 20 minutes.
Since assuming a starting role for the Wildcats,
Kennedy Jennings (Des Moines, Iowa) has come on strong for the Wildcats. Saturday was no different as she picked up a team-high 10 points and three steals and a block.
Mari Lee (Dawson, Minn.) had one of her strongest performances going 2-for-3 and collected three rebounds, a team-high two blocks and three seals. Big sister
Kristen Lee (Dawson, Minn.) had the second-best scoring day when she added seven points, two assists and a block.
Abby Torgerson (Anoka, Minn.) also added six points.
For Macalester, Veronika Jakubovie posted a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Carmen Whitehead had a team-best 13 points.
The Wildcats have just two games left on the schedule for the final week of the MIAC regular season. First, they travel to Arden Hills, Minn., to take on Bethel University for a 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats will then conclude the 2013-14 season at home against Gustavus Adolphus College next Saturday at 3 p.m. in the
Butler Center.
