Box Score After a narrow loss in the final minute of the game against Carleton College Wednesday evening, the St. Catherine University basketball team again found itself in a good position to pick up a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win against an Augsburg College team that has won just four conference matchups this season. Unfortunately, the Wildcats struggled from the field and couldn't slow down one of the league's top scorers in Jill Tichy as they fell 76-43 Saturday afternoon at the
Butler Center in St. Paul.
Tichy was nearly unstoppable for the Auggies as she drained six 3-pointers and went 10-14 from the field to score 26 points. She was accompanied by the strong defensive and play-making abilities of Marie Fitzgerald who had nine rebounds and seven assists to lead the game in both categories, while also adding 12 points.
The Auggies shot 50 percent from the field and made 13-of-25 from beyond the arc. They also held a 38-27 advantage in rebounds and held the Wildcats to just 29.2 percent shooting from the field.
In the Wildcats' last matchup against the Auggies, first-year
Kennedy Jennings (Des Moines, Iowa) had a team-best and career-high 12 points. She matched that mark again Saturday scoring a team-high 12 points. She was 4-for-6 from the field and 4-for-7 from the free throw line.
Though
LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn.) was held to just four points, she pulled in a team-high seven rebounds and and a steal.
Abby Torgerson (Anoka, Minn.) was also held to just four points, but hasd a team-best two assists.
Sarah Manning (Page, Ariz.) and
Jenna Mistler (Austin, Texas) each had five points, while
Brittany Ward (Mesa, Ariz.) came off the bench in final minutes for a Wildcat career-high six points as she went 2-for-3 from 3-point range.
The Wildcats will travel to Northfield, Minn., Monday night to face off against St. Olaf College. The MIAC tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
