Wildcats can't overcome strong shooting night for Carleton in MIAC loss

Box Score After suffering a tough loss to No. 13-ranked University of St. Thomas Saturday, the St. Catherine University basketball team hoped it could find a way to pick up another Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win before the semester break. But unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't find a way to slow down Carleton College from 3-point range in suffering a 80-53 loss  Monday evening at the Butler Center

The Knights tied a school record making 13 baskets from beyond the arc including four a piece from each Skylar Tsutsui and Michele Arima who scored 20 and 16 points respectively. The Knights also had three other players reach double-digits in scoring and shot 44.3 percent from the field as a team.

Sophomore Gabby Zehrer (Rogers, Minn.) continued to lead the Wildcats offensively as she scored 20 or more points for the third time this season. She matched Tsutsui's 20 points and had a team-high two assists, while LaShay Holt (Minnespolis, Minn.) collected a game-high and career-best 16 rebounds. The first-year pulled in eight both on offense and defense while also adding seven points.

Sarah Manning (Page, Ariz.) continued her effeicient shooting as she scored seven points and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line, while Mari Lee (Dawson, Minn.) also capitalized on her opportunities as she was 2-for-2 from the field and added three rebounds. First-year Liz Ellens (Sauk Centre, Minn.) came off the bench to score eight points as she went 2-for-3 from 3-point range.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-2 in the MIAC and 2-4 on the season. They will return to action at home for their final game of 2013 against St. Olaf College Wednesday evening. Tip off is scheduled from 7:30 p.m. in the Butler Center
