Heading into Saturday's two tough tournament matches, the St. Catherine University volleyball team hoped to build off of its momentum after going 1-1 on the first day of the Bethany Lutheran Invitational. However, that wasn't the case at the Wildcats dropped both matches and fell to 3-5 on the season.

The Wildcats lost the first match in four sets to UW-Superior and then dropped three straight sets to a tough Wartburg team that has now won seven-straight matches.

Senior Marie O'Neil (St. Michael, Minn.) led the Wildcats with the most kills in both matches and totaled 17 kills, one dig and four blocks on the day. Stephanie Meschke turned in the second best numbers of the day with 11 kills, 12 digs and three blocks. Sophomore setters Ashley Kahlow (LeSueur, Minn.) and Jordyn Wentland (Blaine, Minn.) split duties and recorded 29 and 28 assists, respectively.

Defenisively, senior libero Nicole Pothen (Faribault, Minn.) led the team with 24 digs, while first-year Amber Zeiher (LeSueur, Minn.) recorded five blocks.

Brittni Wangerin (Prior Lake, Minn.) led the Wildcats offensively on the weekend recording 31 total kills, while Meschke finished just behind her with 29 and O'Neil totaled 24 in four matches. Wentland compiled 68 assists in the team's four matches.

The Wildcats won't have much time to dwell on the weekend's results as they begin a tough Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) schedule with their first home match on Wednesday, Sept. 12., at 7 p.m. The Wildcats will take on a Carleton squad that has started 6-2 this season.
