Softball tops Hamline in two close games Saturday

St. Kate's showed a great deal of grit and determination Saturday afternoon to pick up two wins against conference foe Hamline.

Down 1-5 going into the bottom half of the fifth inning of the first game, the Wildcats rallied to tie it up.  Cassie Rooney started things off with a RBI double, scoring Desiree O'ConnellJessica Kniefel picked up two RBI of her own, knocking in Rooney and Kelsey Luedtke with a stand-up double. Kniefel would later score on a single by Jenna Brady.

The score would remain 5-5 until the bottom of the seventh inning. Alyssa Luedtke led off with a single. Jenna Brady then laced a game-winning, RBI triple down the right field line for the 6-5 victory.  Morgan Bogmbach picked up the hard-fought win on the mound.

Game two had the Wildcats leading from the start, scoring two in the first, one in the second and one in the third to get out to a 4-1 lead. The Pipers would attempt to come back, scoring two in the fifth and bringing the score to 4-3, but the Sarah McLennan pitched her way out of a jam leaving two runners on base in the fifth and sixth innings.  Both innings were wrapped up on strike outs. 

Shae Elliott went 3-3 at the plate with two RBI to lead the offense.
