Softball vs. Gustavus, to be continued...

On Tuesday April 5, The St. Kate's and Gustavus softball games were such tight battles that the second game still isn't complete. The Wildcats and Gusties battled into the seventh inning in game one, and by the time they got to the seventh inning of game two play had to be suspended due to darkness.

In game one, the Wildcats came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. The score remained tied until the top of the seventh inning when the Gusties added two runs. St. Kate's couldn't put any runs across in the bottom of the seventh, and took the 5-3 loss to fall to 0-5 in MIAC play.

The second game started out with a bang. Gustavus jumped out to a four run lead in the top of the first. SCU closed the gap by scoring two of their own in the bottom of the first. The Wildcats were threatening for more before the Gusties made a nice defensive stop on an Ashley Matthys line drive with the bases loaded to end the inning.

The back-and-forth play continued over the next five innings. Gustavus added a run in the top of the fourth before St.Kate's scored two in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead.

With darkness edging in the teams started the sixth inning, and Gustavus took full advantage of that opportunity. Jen Ulman led off the inning by smashing a home run to even the score at six apiece. Neither team scored the rest of the way before the game was suspended due to darkness.

The two teams will meet up at a later date to complete the second game. Play will resume with the score tied 6-6 and Gustavus batting in the top of the seventh inning.

When the game was suspended the Wildcats had six runs on 13 hits with no errors. The Gusties had six runs on six hits with two errors.
