After weather postponed their match-up earlier in the week, the St. Kate's softball team faced Carleton Sunday afternoon in an MIAC double-header. The Wildcats lost game one 6-2 and fell 5-4 in the second game.
In game one, St. Kate's led 2-1 after one inning. However, that was all the offensive fire power they could muster in the game. Carleton scored five runs in the next three innings to win 6-2.
Alyssa McKee went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Wildcats in game one.
In the second game St. Kate's got on the board first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Ashley Matthys tripled to drive in
Cassie Vennemann. Matthys later scored on an error to put SCU up 2-0.
The Wildcats lead was short-lived. Carleton used a lead-off triple of their own to jump start a four run rally in the top of the third. Helping out her own cause, the Knights big-inning was punctuated by a three-run homer from starting pitcher Chelsea Yost.
After the Knights added a run in the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead, the Wildcats tried to stage a comeback. In the fifth inning
Cassie Rooney doubled to bring in
Jenna Brady. After an error and stolen base, the Wildcats had runners at second and third with only one out. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, that is where the rally stalled.
In the sixth the Wildcats again put a run on the board to make it 5-4, but could not get that game-tying run across the plate.
Matthys and Brady both went 2-for-3 in the game.
SCU is back in action Tuesday afternoon when they play host to Gustavus Adolphus in another conference double-header.
