St. Kate's attempt for a second straight come from behind win fell just short Wednesday night in the
Butler Center.
After trailing at halftime 32-39, the Cobbers started off hot in the second half. They extended their lead to 14 in less than four minutes.
Then at 13:14 senior forward
Laura Kalbfell scored her eighth point of the night. That jump shot gave her the new St. Catherine University Basketball all-time scoring record of 1,382 points, passing Kate Stodolka ('04).
From there, the tide slowly turned in the Wildcats favor. With 1:30 left in the game St. Kate's had cut Concordia's lead to three. After both teams missed scoring opportunities and traded possessions, Kalbfell rebounded a missed free throw by the Cobbers with 14 second remaining.
SCU called time-out set up a play, ran it well, got a good look at a 3-point shot, but it rattled off the rim allowing Concordia to escape with the win.
St. Kate's was led by
Megan Zillmer, who had a game high 16 points. She also added ten rebounds and two steals.
Laura Kalbfell tallied 15 points, 12 rebounds and a pair of assists to finish off her record setting night.
The Cobbers were led by Erica Nord with 14 points, six assists and four steals.
Congratulations to Laura on reaching this great milestone!! Quite an accomplishment in three years time.
The Wildcats are back in action Saturday for their final home game against Augsburg at 3:00 p.m.
