In their first nonconference game since April 1st, the Wildcat softball team faced host UW-Stout on Sunday afternoon, losing two games to the Blue Devils.
The Wildcats struggled offensively in the first game, as they were held scoreless in the 5-0 loss. UW-Stout put three runs on the board in the third inning and two runs in the sixth inning to take the win.
St. Kate's picked up the offensive production in game two. UW-Stout held a 5-0 lead going into the sixth inning before the Wildcats started a comeback. Kelsey Luedtke singled and Jenna Clark reached on a fielder's choice to start the inning. Kayla Bergerson brought them across home plate with a double to center field. Later, Kelsey Adair singled to left field to score a run and Ann Schmitz singled to center field to score another run, making the score 5-4. Unfortunately that is where the comeback attempt ended and the Blue Devils took their second win of the day.
Adair had 2 hits and 1 RBI, Bergerson had 1 hit for 2 RBIs, Clark recorded 2 hits and 1 run, and Schmitz finished with 1 hit and 1 RBI.
The Wildcats travel to St. Mary's on Wednesday, April 28th for a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. Their next home game is on Saturday, May 1st at 1:00 p.m. against Hamline.
