St. Kate's softball team took the short trip to St. Thomas Saturday afternoon, losing 9-2 and 6-0 to the MIAC-leading Tommies.
St. Catherine scored single runs in the top of the 5th and 6th innings in game one. Ann Schmitz took a walk in the top of the 5th inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Cassie Rooney doubled to bring Schmitz across home plate. The next inning, Kaitlyn Frank singled and later scored off of a double by Katie Allen. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Wildcats could get, as the Tommies took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning with 5 runs and never looked back.
Like game one, St. Kate's got down early in game two. St. Thomas scored 3 runs in the first inning and 2 runs in the second inning on their way to a 6-0 win. The Wildcats best chance to score came in the 6th inning. St. Kate's was able to get the bases loaded, but St. Thomas forced the remaining outs to keep the Wildcats scoreless for the game.
St. Kate's looks to get back on track in the MIAC with two home doubleheaders next week. St. Olaf comes to St. Catherine on Tuesday, April 20th at 4:00 p.m. Concordia visits on Thursday, April 22nd at 4:00 p.m.
