The St. Kate's basketball team put their four-game losing streak behind them Saturday afternoon with an 80-48 win over Augsburg at Butler Center. The win brings the Wildcats record to 7-9 on the season, 6-7 in the MIAC.
St. Kate's got out to a quick 16-5 lead just six minutes into the game. But Augsburg battled back, tying the score at 18-18 with just over 9 minutes remaining until halftime. That is when Wildcat Jenna Olson took over, scoring 7 of her 14 first-half points in less than 6 minutes to give the Wildcats a 39-31 advantage at halftime.
In the second half the Wildcats dominated defensively, forcing turnovers and poor shots. After holding the Auggies scoreless for over 7 minutes, St. Kate's increased their lead to 72-38 with just over 7 minutes remaining. They continued their domination until the buzzer sounded, recording the 80-48 win.
St. Kate's outscored Augsburg 41-17 in the second half and had 55 rebounds to the Auggies 39.
Laura Kalbfell had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Sonja Ellingson finished with 12 points, Cassandra Hubler with 10, and Jenna Olson with 14 and 6 assists. Molly Peterson had 8 points and 7 rebounds.
The Wildcats host St. Benedict on Wednesday, January 27th at 7:30 pm at Butler Center.
