The St. Kate's hockey team beat Finlandia 5-1 in their return to action after the Holiday Break. With the win the Wildcats are now 8-1 on the season.

The Wildcats wasted no time in scoring their first points of 2010 as Cassie Rooney scored 15 seconds after the opening faceoff to put SCU up 1-0. Kelsey Abrahamson and Michaela Michaelson assisted on the play.

Seventeen minutes later that trio again turned on the red light. This time it was Michaelson from Abrahamson and Rooney, and the Wildcats took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Despite some great scoring chances, Finlandia kept St. Kate's off the scoreboard in the second period.

The first ten minutes of the third period proved to be the most lively of the game, as four goals were scored. Fortunately SCU had three of those four goals to secure the win.

Aryn Ball started the scoring with the Wildcats only power play goal of the night. Kayla Clafton and Ashely Tilton assisted on the play.

Just under two minutes later it was Ashely Grell scoring her third goal of the season to put SCU up 4-0. Katie Lawler and Anna Sombrio assisted on the play.

Finlandia scored a power play goal of their own at the 7:18 mark of the third. Two and a half minutes later Tilton responded for SCU. The final goal of the night was Tilton's first of her collegiate career. Liz Bauer and Megan Boehmer assisted on the play.

The Wildcats outshot Finlandia 28-16 on the night. Mel Gerten stopped 13 shots in 44 minutes of shut-out play and Kayla Lange added two more saves in her 15 minutes of work in between the pipes.

The two teams face off again for the third time this season on Saturday January 3rd at 2:00pm.
