The St. Kate's volleyball team dropped a close game Saturday afternoon at Butler Center to M.I.A.C. foe St. Olaf.
In the first set St. Olaf jumped out to an early 11-3 lead. The Wildcats kept pace the rest of the set, but were unable to mount a comeback, losing (17-25). The Oles again jumped out to an early lead in the second set, gaining a 17-9 advantage. St. Kate's then won the next 13 of 18 points to tie the score at 22-22. The teams traded scores, tying the score at 25-25, until St. Olaf took the last two points to win the set.
The Wildcats displayed their dominating ability in the third set, rolling out to a quick 10-5 lead. They never looked back, putting together a string of kills to close the set at (25-8).
The fourth set remained competitive, with the teams trading points. St. Kate's kept within two points of the Oles, but they pulled away at the end, topping the Wildcats (25-19).
The final scores were as follows: (17-25),(25-27),(25-8),(19-25).
Maria Hoffman led the Wildcats with 13 kills, followed by Brittni Wangerin with 10 and Kayla Sis with 9. Nicole Neumann had 14 digs, while Wagnerin and Nina Lindquist each had 8.
The loss brings St. Kate's record to 11-7 overall, 1-2 in the M.I.A.C.
The Wildcats look to improve their M.I.A.C. record when they host Hamline on Wednesday, September 30th at 7:00 P.M. at Butler Center.
