After a convincing day one win in their season opening MIAC-NCHA tournament, the St. Kate's hockey team needed overtime to pick up their second win of the season. The exciting match-up ended just 1:58 into the extra session when
Cassie Rooney took a pass from
Bridget Braastad and turned on the red light and give St. Kate's a 4-3 win over Concordia (Wis.).
The Wildcats jumped out to a commanding 3-1 lead in the first two periods. 9:25 into the first period, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead after
Meghan Lange scored her first goal of the season.
Michaela Michaelson scored her third goal of the season 4:22 into the second period to give St. Kate's a 2-0 lead.
Less than two minutes after Concordia scored to make it 2-1, first-year player
Randi Weinzierl scored her second power play goal of the season to put Coach Marshall's team up 3-1 heading into the second intermission.
Unfortunately SCU could not sustain that lead, as some costly penalties led to two Concordia power play goals in the third period to force overtime.
That is when Rooney struck, and allowed the Wildcats to skate off the ice with a hard earned 4-3 win.
The Wildcats host their first home game of the season on Saturday November 14 when they host Lindenwood in an exhibition game at Ridder Arena.
