ST. PAUL, MINN. – There have been a lot of expectations for the St. Catherine University softball team this season. So far, they have lived up to all of them. The Wildcats are undefeated through the first 12 games of the season and are currently tied with Rowan College as the No. 20 team in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III poll. One of the key contributors to St. Kate’s success has been senior shortstop Robyn Rohr. Rohr’s clutch hitting, base running, and defensive play helped the Wildcats go 8-0 during their spring trip to Florida. For her tremendous performance, Rohr has been named Wildcat Athlete of the Week.

Rohr has been off to a rip roaring start on the offensive side of the ball. The lefty has a hit in every game for St. Kate’s this season and has scored a team high 13 runs already this season. At the National Training Center (NTC) Spring Games in Clermont, Florida last week, Rohr went 12-23 at the plate for a .522 batting average (BA) during the trip. She also scored in six of the Wildcats eight games with eight runs total, recorded eight RBIs (runs batted in), and took six walks during the week.

Rohr was also one of St. Kate’s most clutch batters at the plate during the spring trip to Florida. With the Wildcats down 1-0 against Elmhurst College in their final game of the spring trip, Rohr hit a grand slam at the top of the second to give St. Kate’s a 9-1 lead they would never relinquish. She also scored the game winning run in a 2-1 win over Fontbonne University after hitting an RBI double in the top of the second inning.

Currently, Rohr leads to team in runs (13), hits (18), and RBIs (14) and is second in batting average (.439). She has started all 12 games at shortstop and has recorded a hit in each of those games.

In addition to being one of the top hitters of the team, Rohr is also one of the top hitters in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). She is seventh in the conference in batting average, fifth in RBI, and tied for eighth with five stolen bases.

Rohr and St. Kate’s look to stay perfect this week as they host UW-River Falls in their home opener on Tuesday, March 29. The first game of the double header will start at 3 p.m. with the second starting around 5 p.m. After Tuesday, the Wildcats hit the road for a double header against UW-Eau Claire on Thursday and open MIAC play with a double header against Saint Mary’s University in Winona on Saturday.
