The St. Catherine University softball team ended its record-breaking season in style this week recording back-to-back Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) sweeps of Concordia and Macalester Colleges. Thanks to solid pitching and a strong week at the plate from Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson), the Wildcats ended their season on a six-game winning streak and won 11 of their last 12 conference games. For her efforts, she has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.

The Wildcats started off the week Wednesday with 3-1 and 3-2 wins over the Cobbers in cold and windy conditions in Moorhead. Flugstad threw a complete seven innings in the opener and gave up just one run on six hits while striking out 11 Cobber batters – a mark that helped her set a new single season Wildcat record for strikeouts. This was also the fourth time this season the first-year struck out 10 or more batters in a single game.

In the Wildcats' back-to-back six-inning routs of Macalester Saturday, Flugstad was nearly perfect in the opener as she went a full six innings ont he mound allowing no runs and just one hit. She also fanned eight batters en route to her fourth shutout of the season. At the plate, she finished the day 5-of-7 with two runs and two RBI. She finished the week with a team-best .538 batting average and .538 on base percentage.

Flugstad finished the week with an impressive 0.54 earned run average in 13 innings of work. Her season average of 1.50 is first in the MIAC this season while her school-record 146 strikeouts was second in the MIAC by just two. She compiled 14 wins which is second most in the MIAC and second in a single season at St. Kate's.

The Wildcats ended the 2015 campaign with a school record mark of 28-10 overall and 15-7 in the MIAC finishing fifth in the standings and just one game out of the postseason.
