The St. Catherine University track and field team wrapped up the 2013 indoor season with a strong showing at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships this weekend at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. The Wildcats had several personal record (PR) performances, but none of them compared to that of distance runner Kristina Poss (Shoreview, Minn.). For her efforts, Poss has earned her second Wildcat Athlete of the Week honor.
The junior snuck into the finals of the 5,000 meter run at the MIAC Championships as the final seed, but came out with a 14th-place finish thanks to an impressive PR time of 19:12.28. Poss dropped over 14 seconds from her seed time in just her second running of the event all season. With her time, she now ranks No. 4 on the St. Kate's all-time top-10 performance list for the 5,000-meter event.
Poss has been a strong force for the Wildcats all of indoor season with season best or PR races almost every weekend heading into conference. During the indoor campaign, she also moved up to No. 7 all-time in the 3,000 meter run at an earlier meet.
Poss and the rest of the Wildcat squad will take a few weeks off of competition before opening up the outdoor season on April 6 at Hamline University at 1 p.m.
