Entering his fourth season at St. Catherine University, Joey Matesi brings a long history of success and a winning mindset to the program, as well as a fun and energetic presence.
Before working with St. Catherine University, Matesi was an Assistant/Goalkeeper Coach for the Macalester Men’s Soccer program. During his time with the Scotts, he helped the team to an overall record of 43-22-13, two MIAC Tournament Finals, and 4 MIAC Tournament appearances, and multiple national top 25 and national top 10 rankings.
In addition to his experience at the collegiate level, Joey also spent two years working with U.S. Soccer, serving as an Assistant/Goalkeeper coach with the U.S. CP National Team. He played a pivotal role in helping the U.S. CP National team take home a bronze medal from the Parapan American Games, a third-place finish at the IFCPF Copa America, and a fifth-place finish at the IFCPF World Cup. During his tenure, the U.S. CP National team goalkeepers were considered amongst the best in the world, winning the Golden Glove award at the IFCPF Copa America.
Joey has cultivated a long and prolific career in various clubs, high school, and collegiate settings within Minnesota. Most recently, Joey served as the Sporting Director for Boreal FC. During his time with Boreal FC, he led the club to its first two USYS State Cup Championships, a semi-final finish at USYS Midwest Regionals, and its first appearances at both the USYS National Championship Tournament and NPL Finals. He has over ten years of experience serving as a Director of Goalkeeping for various organizations. He holds a USSF B License, as well as a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Goalkeeping License and Director of Coaching Diploma.
