Sydney Baldwin enters her second season with the Wildcats after joining the St. Catherine University staff as an assistant hockey coach for the 2019-20 season.
The Minnetonka native and former Ms. Hockey, was an All-American at the University of Minnesota and a member of the U19 and U22 USA Women's National Team. Prior to her playing days at Minnesota, Baldwin earned the honor of being named the Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year in 2014, in addition to the receiving the prestigious honor of the Ms. Hockey award. After being named Ms. Hockey in 2014, while a senior at Minnetonka HS, Baldwin went on to play 158 games in a Gopher uniform finishing in the Top-10 for all-time defense with 81 points. At Minnesota, Baldwin accumulated several honors including being a part of the WCHA All-Rookie Team, both WCHA and ACHA Academic Scholar and was a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award. She capped off her senior year by being named CCM/AHCA First Team All-American, WCHA Player of the Year, WCHA Defensive Player of the Year and All-American Scholar Team member. Last year, Sydney played in Vienna, Austria with the EHV Vienna Sabres.
Coach Marshall spoke about her recently, "We're very fortunate to have Sydney join our university and staff. Her on ice resume and academic accomplishments are very extensive and unparalleled, but she is such well spoken, smart, role model for our student-athletes. Our team will benefit immensely from her experiences both on and off the ice. I'm really looking forward to her working with her. Sydney will primarily focus on working with the defense and special teams, but will also spend time recruiting this fall/winter."
Baldwin will begin classes this spring in the St. Catherine University Graduate College - Henrietta Schmoll School of Health working towards her Master of Science in Nursing degree.
