Josh Funk

Josh Funk enters his first season with the St. Kate’s hockey program in 2016-17.

Prior to joining the Wildcats staff, Funk found success at various levels of hockey, both as a coach and as a player.  After graduating from Saint Thomas Academy, he attended Gustavus Adolphus College where he was part of the Gustie hockey and baseball teams. During his senior year, Funk served as a student assistant for the Gustavus men’s hockey team, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

After graduating from Gustavus, Funk coached the women’s club hockey team at Miami University (OH) while taking classes towards his Master’s Degree in Sport Psychology. Funk helped lead the Redhawks to a 26-2-1 record and a second place finish at the national tournament.

In 2015-16, Funk was the Assistant Coach and Head Equipment Manager for the Sugar Land (TX) Imperials in the North American Tier III Hockey League. Funk lead the Imperials to franchise record numbers for lowest goals against average, highest penalty kill percentage, most wins, and the first playoff appearance in program history.

Funk works with the Wildcats defense, sport psychology and off ice activities. He also teaches Exercise Science classes at St. Kate’s and is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach.

Funk graduated from Gustavus in 2012 with a degree in Psychology and Coaching.
