Tennis closes out regular season with 6-1 defeat of Hamline

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team closed out the regular season with a 6-1 defeat of Hamline University at Baseline Tennis Center. The win advanced St. Kate's to a 7-3 conference record clinching the No. 4 seed in the MIAC playoffs.

The Wildcats set the tone early by taking two of three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The duo of Faith Simon and Ashley King picked up a 7–5 win at No. 1 doubles, while Melanie Gravdahl and Liliana Holmberg added a 6–4 victory at No. 3 to give St. Catherine the early edge.

In singles play, St. Catherine took control, winning five of six matches in decisive fashion. Faith Simon led the way at the top spot with a commanding 6–0, 6–1 win. Liliana Holmberg followed with a straight-set victory at No. 2, while Marie Pelletier (No. 3), Ashley King (No. 4), and Ryanna Steinhaus (No. 5) each earned convincing wins to seal the team result.

The Wildcats' only setback came at No. 6 singles, but the depth throughout the lineup proved to be the difference as St. Catherine secured the 6–1 team victory.

St. Kate's will host the No. 5 seed on Tuesday, April 28 for their 14th overall appearance in the MIAC playoffs and third consecutive berth. The Wildcats quarterfinals opponent and match time is yet to be determined.
