Four earn Fleur-de-lis Awards

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Catherine University athletic department selected the Fleur-de-lis award recipients through March 15. This selection includes four individuals for athletic performance.

Introduced in the fall of 2017, the Fleur-de-lis award is an honor given to student-athletes who embody the three components of the Wildcat athletic department: sport, scholarship, and service. The Fleur-de-lis is a visual representation of the athletic department's mission. The three petals of the Fleur-de-lis represent the tenants of our mission:  Scholarship, Athleticism, and Service.  The band holding the three pedals together represents leadership and perseverance.  Excellence in any of these areas is recognized by the department through this award.

The Fleur-de-lis award honors Wildcat student-athletes who have exemplified the department's mission on the field, the classroom, and through community service. The Fleur-de-lis, or "flower of the lily" in English, is a symbol used by the University and Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and is proudly incorporated into the St. Catherine shield as a representation of the Sister's French heritage and the seed from which their good works grow.

Maggie Lewandowski | Jr., Indoor Track & Field | Athletic Performance
Maplewood, Minn. / Roseville Area

Junior Maggie Lewandoski earned her first Fleur-de-lis Award in her career at St. Kate's after a historic performance in the weight throw. Lewandowski's throw of 13.37m ranks her eighth all time on the Wildcats Indoor Top 10 Performance List and is a personal best for the junior.

Ryanna Steinhaus | Jr., Tennis | Athletic Performance
Litchfield, Minn. / Litchfield / College of Saint Benedict

Ryanna Steinhaus earns her second Fleur-de-lis Award in her time at St. Kate's after a stellar two week stretch and going undefeated while on the teams spring break tip. She claimed the Wildcats lone point against a talented Coe College team at No. 5 singles, then followed that performance up by going undefeated both singles and doubles. Steinhuas began the trip by having a big comeback - down 2-5 - at #2 doubles with partner Marie Pelletier to win 7-5 and secure the doubles point for the Wildcats against Transylvania. She further helped the team complete a 7-0 win with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win in singles. On our second day of competition, Steinhaus won the deciding match 7-6(2), 6-2 at #5 singles in our 4-3 victory over Carthage College. On the final day she helped win the doubles point with a win at #2 doubles and the team win over Sweet Briar with a straight sets win in singles.

Helen McKinnon | Sr., Softball | Athletic Performance
Farmington, Minn. / Rosemount

Senior shortstop, Helen McKinnon hit .565 (13-for-23) with ten RBI and four extra-base hits in the Wildcats' 6-2 week in Florida to earn her first Fleur-de-lis Award of her senior season. McKinnon logged five multi-hit games during that stretch, including a 3-for-4 day against Fitchburg State on 3/10 that resulted in five RBI. McKinnon finished that game one home run shy of the cycle. Her homer came later in the week when she drove a pitch over the centerfield fence for a grand slam in an eventual 14-1 win over Rutgers-Newark on 3/14. McKinnon was amongst the top hitters for the week across all Division III teams and ranks at the top of multiple offensive categories within the MIAC.

Annabelle Cook | Jr., Softball | Athletics Performance

Junior Annabella Cook earns her first career Fleur-de-lis Award after putting together an outstanding performance in the team's eight-game stretch in Florida. Hitting an incredible .526, Cook tallied ten hits including three doubles, while driving in 6RBIs and scoring eight runs.
