MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The St. Catherine University softball team returned to play in Florida on Friday splitting wins at the Space Coast Spring Games. St. Kate's fell to Marietta College 3-2 before taking down Wisconsin Lutheran College 6-1. St. Kate's improves to 9-5 after the day.
GAME ONE | Marietta 3, St. Catherine 2
The Pioneers scored in the first on an RBI single by Becca Streets, then answered St. Catherine's two-run fifth with another Streets RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Marietta pushed across the go-ahead run in the seventh on a late double steal.
St. Catherine took its only lead in the fifth. Helen McKinnon reached and came around to score on Grace Swigart's RBI single, and G. Swigart later scored on a wild pitch after Faith Bonse reached.
McKinnon and G. Swigart each had two hits to lead the Wildcats. Bonse, Sam Aronson, and Layla Nguyen also added hits. Alexa Carlstrom went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs while striking out five.
GAME TWO | St. Catherine 6, Wisconsin Lutheran 1
St. Catherine defeated Wisconsin Lutheran 6–1 on Saturday afternoon in Melbourne, Florida.
The Wildcats scored in five different innings and finished with 12 hits. Aronson led the offense with three hits and two runs scored, while McKinnon also had three hits and an RBI. Kylee Kohout drove in three runs, including an RBI double in the fifth, and G. Swigart added two hits and an RBI.
Morgan Wilson earned the win in the circle, allowing one run over five innings, and Taylor Graf closed the game with two scoreless innings of relief.
St. Kate's closes out their time in Florida on Saturday facing Rutger-Newark followed by Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
