MANKATO, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team claimed a pair of non conference wins with a 11-0 defeat of Minnesota Morris followed by a 10-2 victory over Northwestern-St. Paul at the Mankato Dome.
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 11, Minnesota Morris 0 (5 innings)
St. Catherine scored early and often in a five-inning win over Minnesota Morris on Friday night in Mankato, piling up 11 runs on 14 hits and playing error-free defense.
The Wildcats struck for two runs in both the first and second innings, then broke it open with a five-run third. St. Catherine added two more in the fourth and finished the game with seven doubles and a triple.
Mayci Larson led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI (including a two-run single in the third). Grace Swigart went 2-for-2, scored twice, and tripled and singled with an RBI. F. Bonse added two doubles and 2 RBI, and S. Aronson chipped in an RBI double.
In the circle, Taylor Graf earned the win with three scoreless innings as Hannah Beriner and Elizabeth Van Lith combined for the five-inning shutout, allowing just three hits.
GAME TWO | St. Catherine 10, Northwestern-St. Paul 2 (6 innings)
St. Catherine scored in four different innings and pulled away late to earn a 10–2 win. The Wildcats put up five runs in the first two innings, added a run in the fifth (including G. Swigart stealing home), then sealed it with a four-run sixth.
Helen McKinnon drove in three (2-for-2 with a double), G. Swigart went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a triple, and Sam Aronson finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
In the circle, Alexa Carlstrom tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits with one strikeout. Northwestern's only scoring came on a two-run homer in the third.
The Wildcats travel to Rochester February 28 facing Wisconsin-Stout and Luther College.
