St. Kate's adds two in second half to shut out Gustavus, 2-0

ST. PETER, Minn. – The St. Catherine University women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to secure a 2-0 shutout victory over Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats improved to 10-3-1 overall and 6-1-1 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play.

After a scoreless opening half, St. Kate's wasted little time taking control of the match. Bella Meier broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, scoring her sixth goal of the season to give the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage.

Just over four minutes later, Ceci Emery doubled the lead with her second goal of the season in the 54th minute, putting St. Kate's ahead 2-0.

The Wildcats maintained offensive pressure throughout the second half, outshooting Gustavus 11-1 over the final 45 minutes. St. Kate's finished with an 18-5 advantage in total shots, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.

Defensively, the Wildcats limited the Gusties' opportunities, holding Gustavus without a shot on goal in the second half. Goalkeeper Brianna Valdez recorded two saves in 90 minutes to earn the shutout victory.

Emily Olson and Lydia Benson led the Wildcats with three shots apiece, while Meier and Emery each contributed two shots. St. Kate's also held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
