ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team continued their win streak with a 6-1 non-conference win over the University of Northwestern, St. Paul Eagles on Tuesday afternoon on the campus of St. Kate's. The Wildcats improve to 12-3 overall with three regular season matches remaining until MIAC playoffs.Â
St. Kate's came out strong in doubles play, capturing two of the three matches with decisive 6-1 victories. At No. 1 doubles, Kelsey Dorr and Caitlyn Stadter set the tone early with a convincing win over Abby and Paige Johnson. Ashley King and Monica Zink matched that intensity at No. 3, defeating Isabelle Sullivan and Hannah Hyttsten by the same score. The Eagles only doubles point came at the No. 2 spot, where Aby Ross and Caitlyn Swigart battled to a 6-3 win over Faith Simon and Erica Wing.Â
In singles action, the Wildcats were nearly untouchable, taking five of six matches in straight sets. Dorr dominated at the No. 1 position with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Stadter, Zink, Holmberg, and Pelletier each turned in commanding performances at the No. 3 through No. 6 spots.
Northwestern's lone singles victory came at No. 2, where Paige Johnson edged out Simon in a tightly contested three-setter, 6-1, 4-6, 10-3.
St. Kate's travel to St. Peter on Saturday, April 12 for a 10 am MIAC match. They return to campus on Thursday, April 17 hosting Bethel University at 4:30 pm.Â
