MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team opened the 2025 spring season hosting Northwestern College (NAIA) at Baseline Tennis Center on Friday evening. St. Kate's defeated the Raiders 7-0 to start the season 1-0.
The non-conference match opened with doubles play as rookie
Ashley King and senior
Erica Wing defeated the Raiders No. 3 doubles team 6-3. In the No. 2 doubles match, sophomore
Faith Simon and senior
Monica Zink defeated their opponent 6-4. In the final doubles matching, graduate student
Kelsey Dorr and first-year
Caitlyn Stadter won a battle at No. 1 with a final match score of 7-6 (8-6).
The Wildcats also claimed all six victories in singles competition as sophomore
Marie Pelletier downed the No. 6 player from Northwestern 6-1, 6-3. At No. 5 singles was
Liliana Holmberg won 6-2, 6-1, and at No. 4 Zink defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-0.
Dorr, who is ranked No. 31 in Division III for singles won in the No. 1 match 6-2, 6-4 and Simon earned the win at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1. Stadter won her first collegiate singles match edging out the Raiders No. 3 player 6-1, 6-0.
St. Kate's travels to Duluth, Minnesota on Sunday to face the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (NCAA Division II) at 11 am.
