MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team fell to the No. 6 ranked Augsburg University Auggies at Ed Saugestad Rink on Friday evening 8-1. St. Kate's falls to 5-14-1 on the season with a conference record of 3-10.
Augsburg scored in the first minute of play before taking a three goal lead in under five minutes including a power play goal at 11:54. Sophomore
Sarah Wangen tallied her first goal of the season at 14:04 while on a power play in the first period with help from
Raechel Painovich and
Paige Loidolt. The Auggies added one more goal in the period taking the 4-1 advantage into the first intermission.
Augsburg continued their momentum in the second adding two goals before adding their final two in the third with another power play goal at 14:06.
Junior
Anna Friendshuh took the loss in net playing the first two periods making 29 saves. Sophomore
Lea Grassia played the final period making nine saves and allowing two goals.
St. Kate's will host the top MIAC ranked Auggies at Drake Arena on Saturday, February 8 at 2 pm.
