ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team dropped their final home game of the season to the Hamline University Pipers on Wednesday evening inside of
Butler Center. The 53-36 loss puts the Wildcats at 13-11 overall with a MIAC record of 8-9.
Hattie Fox paced the team with 13 points with two steals and three rebounds.
Greta Schimnowski followed with eight and three boards.
Emme Golembiewski led defensively with eight rebounds, five blocks all while contributing three points.
Hamline took control early with strong three-point shooting, hitting three triples in the quarter. St. Kate's kept pace early, but turnovers and missed opportunities allowed Hamline to build momentum. A late fastbreak three and a final layup extended Hamline's lead to 19-5 at the end of the first ten minutes.
The Wildcats fought back in the second quarter with clutch three-pointers from Schimnowski and Fox, cutting into the Piper's lead. Despite some defensive stops by St. Catherine, Hamline closed the half ahead 31-18.
St. Kate's cut into Hamline's lead early in the third with key shots from Schimnowski and Fox again. Despite a late push from St. Catherine, Hamline maintained control, ending the quarter ahead 50-36.
Both teams struggled offensively in a defensive-heavy quarter, with multiple missed shots and turnovers. Hamline broke the drought with a three-pointer, extending their lead to 53-36.
St. Kate's will travel to No. 6 ranked Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday for a 3 pm game against the Gusties.
