SAINT PETER, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team concluded the 2024-25 season falling to the No. 6 ranked Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties 74-51. The season finale was highlighted by senior
Greta Schimnowski who set a new St .Kate's basketball program record for most career threes.
Schimnowski led the Wildcats in scoring contributing 12 points shooting 4 for 11 to go with her two rebounds and one steal.
Hattie Fox followed with ten points shooting 100 percent from the charity line and snagging five boards.
Emme Golembiewski and
Jordyn Peed delivered eight points each with Golembiewski posting six rebounds and Peed two. Peed also had a team best three steals.
St. Kate's held a strong lead throughout the first quarter with Schimnowski hitting back-to-back threes, giving the Wildcats a 12-6 lead. Despite a late push from Gustavus, including a crucial three-pointer from the Gusties, St. Kate's maintained control with credit to Lily Peper and Jordyn Peed, who scored on fast breaks. The quarter closed out with a 16-19 deficit.
Senior
Rachel Randleman hit a key three pointer to tie the game early in the second quarter with Peper adding a tough layup. However, Gustavus pulled ahead with the Wildcats having trouble finding consistency to enter halftime down by 14.
Coming out of the half, the Gusties maintained their dominance building a 19 point cushion before Peper and Peed combined to get the team within 14 going into the final ten minutes of play.
The Wildcats battled in the final minutes of the game but weren't able to overtime the tough deficit, falling 74-51. Schimnowski's record breaking three was scored with 44 seconds remaining on the clock off a pass from Peper setting the new program standard to 180 career three point field goals made.
St. Kate's concludes the season with a 13-12 record and finishing 8-10 in the MIAC.
