ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team returned to
Butler Center on Wednesday evening to host Minnesota Intercollegaite Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe, Macalester College. The 3-1 win moves the Wildcats to 6–12 overall and 2–2 in the conference, while Macalester drops to 3–15 (0–4 MIAC).
St. Kate's was powered by a balanced attack that produced 59 kills and a .190 hitting percentage on the night. Senior outside hitter Liz Rosen led the way with 14 kills, 13 digs, and an ace, posting a .286 hitting percentage and tallying 15.5 total points. She was joined in double figures by Madison Fagan with 11 kills and 4 blocks, and Marta Haugen, who added 12 kills at a .265 clip.
Middle blocker Emily Bredman contributed on both sides of the net, finishing with 7 kills, 5 blocks, and 11 points. Setter Addison Preuss directed the offense with 22 assists, 4 aces, and 7 digs, while fellow setter Jalyn Wolle handed out 16 assists and chipped in 9 digs. Defensively, the Wildcats dug up 76 balls, led by Rosen, Maddie Newton with ten, and Preuss.
After taking the opening set 25–20, the Wildcats battled in a tightly contested second frame but came up short, 23–25. They regrouped quickly, dominating the third set with a 25–17 win fueled by five aces, before closing out the match 25–15 in the fourth. St. Kate's finished with a 7–6 edge in service aces and out-blocked the Scots 9–6.
The Wildcats travel to the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday for a 5 pm MIAC match.Â
