Wildcats drop one goal decision to Carleton

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University soccer team recorded their first conference loss falling to Carleton College. The Wildcats went toe-to-toe with the Knights on Saturday afternoon, ultimately dropping a narrow 1–0 decision despite controlling much of the match. The loss moves St. Kate's to 9-2 overall with an MIAC record of 4-1.

Carleton struck quickly with a goal in the 3rd minute, but the Wildcats didn't fold. Instead, they pushed the pace and dictated possession for long stretches, outshooting the Knights 15–7 overall and piling up 10 shots on target.

The Wildcats kept the Carleton keeper busy from start to finish. Briana Henaman, Bella Meier, and Emily Olson each tested the net in the opening half, while first-year standout Jaidyn Richter nearly pulled St. Kate's level with a penalty kick in the 46th minute, only to be denied by a diving save.

As the second half wore on, the Wildcats continued to press. Maren Schoeberl twice forced difficult stops, while Olson and Richter each fired dangerous shots that had the home crowd on its feet.

While the offense created plenty of chances, the back line anchored by Haley Glass, Richter, and Ceci Emery kept Carleton's dangerous attack largely in check after the early goal. Keeper Brianna Valdez turned aside three shots, including a key stop in the 71st minute to keep the Wildcats within striking distance.

Despite the relentless pressure and quality looks, the Wildcats couldn't quite find the equalizer, with Carleton's goalkeeper finishing with 10 saves to preserve the shutout.

St. Kate's travels to Winona next Saturday to face Saint Mary's University for a 3:30 pm game. They return to St. Paul on Tuesday, October 14 hosting the College of St. Scholastica at 4 pm.
