WINONA, Minn. — The St. Catherine University soccer team earned its tenth win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Saint Mary's 2–1 on the road behind goals from Bella Meier and Briana Henaman. With the victory, St. Kate's improves to 10-2-0 overall and 5-1-0 in MIAC play.
The Wildcats came out strong, maintaining early possession and generating multiple scoring chances. After testing the Cardinals' keeper twice in the opening minutes, St. Kate's broke through in the 33rd minute when Meier converted a pass from Natalie Pfleger to put the Wildcats up 1–0.
Saint Mary's answered just before halftime. In the 40th minute they leveled the match at 1–1 going into the break.
The second half featured physical play from both sides as St. Kate's back line, anchored by Haley Glass, Jaidyn Richter, and Ceci Emery, kept the Cardinals' offense in check. The decisive moment came in the 67th minute when Henaman capitalized on a loose ball in the box, slotting home what proved to be the game-winner.
Goalkeeper Brianna Valdez recorded two key saves and managed the backfield effectively in her 90 minutes of play. The Wildcats outshot Saint Mary's 12–9, including a 7–3 advantage in shots on goal.
St. Kate's hosts the Saints from the College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday, October 14 and celebrates senior day on Sunday, October 19 against the other team from the Northland, the University of Wisconsin, Superior.
