ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — St. Catherine University soccer used a dominant second half to power past the College of Saint Benedict, earning a 3–0 road victory Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 12–2 overall and 7–1 in MIAC play, while posting their ninth shutout of the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats broke through in the 52nd minute when Lydia Benson found the back of the net off a pass from Maren Schoeberl.
In the 74th minute, Briana Henaman doubled the lead after a setup from Bella Meier, finishing calmly to make it 2-0. The Wildcats sealed the victory in the 86th minute as Schoberl capped off the win with a goal assisted by B. Henaman.
St. Catherine dominated possession, outshooting Saint Benedict 22-17 overall and 16-3 on net. B. Henaman led the attack with six shots and a goal and assist, while Meier added four shots on target.
Goalkeeper Brianna Valdez recorded her sixth shutout of the season, making three first-half saves as the defense held firm against early pressure, as the Wildacts' backline limited the Bennies to just three shots on goal.
St. Kate's will recognize the senior class on Sunday afternoon as they host the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 3:30 pm at St. Kate's Field.
