DULUTH, Minn. — The St. Catherine University volleyball team picked up an important Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) road victory Friday night, defeating St. Scholastica 3–1 ( inside Reif Gymnasium. The win evens the Wildcats' conference record at 3–3 and improves their overall mark to 7–13.
St. Kate's opened the match with a thrilling 26–24 first-set win, holding off a late Saints push behind kills from Marta Haugen and Madison Fagan, who combined for six kills in the frame. After dropping the second set 25–17, the Wildcats regrouped and dominated the final two sets, closing out the match with a .387 hitting percentage in the fourth.
Haugen led the attack with 14 kills and a .286 hitting mark, while Fagan followed closely with 12 kills and three blocks. Emily Bredman was nearly unstoppable at the net, posting eight kills without an error (.615) and adding four blocks. Liz Rosen chipped in seven kills, 10 digs, and three aces for a complete all-around effort.
The Wildcats' offense clicked thanks to steady play making from setters Addison Preuss and Jalyn Wolle, who tallied 25 and 22 assists, respectively. Preuss also added an ace, while Wolle contributed two aces and six digs in a balanced performance.
Defensively, St. Kate's held St. Scholastica to a .191 hitting percentage. Maddie Newton and Rosen led the back row with nine and 10 digs, while Emma Nordeen and Bredman combined for seven total blocks.
The Wildcats continue MIAC play next week as they return home to Butler Center to host Saint Mary's University on Friday, October 24.
