ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University soccer team continued its hot start to the season with a 2–0 road win over Hamline at Paterson Field on Wednesday afternoon. The victory improves the Wildcats to 9-1-0 overall and 4-0-0 in MIAC play.
The Wildcats controlled possession from the opening whistle, piling up 14 shots in the first 45 minutes. Their pressure paid off in the 12th minute when Bella Meier stepped to the penalty spot and buried her chance for her seventh goal of the season, giving St. Kate's a 1–0 lead. Hamline's best look of the half came early, forcing keeper Brianna Valdez into a save just four minutes in. From there, the Piper offense was held in check as the Wildcats' back line absorbed the few attacking threats.
St. Kate's wasted little time doubling its advantage after halftime. In the 48th minute, Ayah Makled finished a chance inside the box for her second goal of the year, extending the lead to 2–0. The Wildcats never looked back, limiting Hamline to zero second-half shots while continuing to generate opportunities of their own.
The Wildcats' defense was airtight, conceding just two shots all game and allowing only one on target. Valdez recorded her sixth complete shutout of the season with one save across 90 minutes.
St. Kate's will host the Carleton College Knights on Saturday, October 4 at St. Kate's Field with a 1 pm kickoff.
