ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team returned to St. Kate's field on Tuesday hosting Carleton College for a pair of MIAC games. St. Kate's claimed game one after a seventh inning comeback before falling to the Knights in game two, 8-4. The Wildcats are now 9-15 with a MIAC record of 3-5.
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 9, Carleton 8
Carleton set the tone early delivering clutch hits, driving in three runs to take an early lead. However, St. Catherine responded with Annie Cook capitalizing on an error and bringing in
Helen McKinnon. Carleton extended their lead but St. Catherine fought back with Cook's single, followed by
Lynae Doty's powerful homer, knotting the score at 4-4.
Carleton regained the lead an RBI double followed by a towering homer, pushing the score to 8-4. St. Catherine didn't back down, with Cook timely single driving in two runs. In a dramatic turn, St. Catherine's rallied with Taylor Brunn's clutch single bringing in two runs to tie the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh. McKinnon then delivered a decisive single, scoring Brunn and giving St. Catherine a 9-8 lead.
Erica Pronschinske earned the win in the circle after relieving Sarah Christy in the top of the sixth inning.
GAME TWO | Carleton 8, St. Catherine 4
Carleton wasted no time getting on the board taking another three-run lead after the top of the opening inning. St. Kate's answered with a two run homer from Kylee Kohout before Sam Aronson drove in Doty to tie the game at 3-3 after one.
The Knights followed with two runs in the second to maintain the lead through the rest of the contest. St. Kate's fought to make another comeback over Carleton but ultimately only added one more run as Aronson's double brought in Doty again in the third.
Taylor Graf took the loss in the circle pitching six inning and snagging three strikeouts.
St. Kate's is home again on Sunday, April 14 as they host Hamline University at 1 and 3 pm after facing the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, April 13 in St. Joseph.
