ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team split wins with the Hamline University Pipers on Sunday afternoon at St. Kate's Field. The Wildcats downed the Pipers 11-3 in five innings with a walk off homer from
Kylee Kohout before dropping game two 12-4.
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 11, Hamline 3
The Pipers wasted no time getting on the board scoring three runs in the opening inning. St. Kate's answered with a run in the bottom frame and took the lead in the bottom of the second. Kohout scored the Wildcats fifth run in the third inning before Annie Cook put together an RBI double bringing in
Mayci Larson. Kohout and Cook scored again in the fourth before combining for the last three runs in the fifth.
Kohout hit 2 for 3 with three runs, a home run and three RBI. Cook posted two doubles hitting 2 for 4 adding three runs and two RBI.
Sarah Christy earned the win in the circle with two strikeouts allowing two earned runs.
GAME TWO | Hamine 12, St. Catherine 4
It was another quick three run lead for the Pipers getting ahead in the top of the second. The Wildcats scored two in the top of the third to get within one but couldn't hold off a five run fifth inning from the Pipers. Kohout and Cook combined again in the sixth inning with Kohout's double driving in Cook going into the final inning 8-3 Hamline. The top of the seventh saw four more runs from the visiting team before Kaitlin Boyles gave one final effort with a solo home run in the seventh.
St. Kate's will travel to Bethel University on Tuesday, April 17 facing the No. 12 ranked Royals for a conference doubleheader set for 3:30 pm.
