MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team saw their historic season come to an end on Thursday evening in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) playoff semifinals to the No. 2 seeded Concordia College Cobbers. The 19-8 season ended falling to the Cobbers 80-71.Â
The game between St. Catherine and Concordia-M'head started with a strong offensive push from Concordia, with Carlee Sieben sinking a three-pointer assisted by Makayla Anderson. The Wildcats struggled to find their rhythm, with turnovers plaguing their early efforts. Anderson's free throws extended Concordia's lead, but St. Kate's fought back with Greta Schimnowski's jumper to get on the board. However, Concordia maintained control, with Molly Musland's basket adding to their lead.
In the second quarter, the Wildcats attempted a comeback, with Schimnowski and Lily Peper making significant contributions. Concordia defense remained strong, with Anderson and Sieben continuing to score effectively. The half ended with Concordia holding a four point lead.
After halftime, the Wildcats intensified their efforts, with Kristen Lawton and Maddie Young making notable plays. However, the Cobbers offense, led by Anderson and Jordyn Kahler, kept them ahead. St. Kate's struggled to close the gap, facing turnovers and defensive pressure from Concordia
In the final quarter, St. Kate's made a late push, with Sydney Elliott and Hattie Fox scoring crucial points. However, Concordia steady performance, particularly from Anderson and Greta Tollefson, secured their victory despite St. Kate's efforts and a three pointer from Karis Zezza at the buzzer.Â
Schimnowski led the way for St. Kate's with 19 points and six rebounds. Fox added 13 points shooting 100 percent from the free throw line to go with her four rebounds. Young was also in double digits on Thursday supplying 11 points off the bench shooting 4 for 4 from the charity stripe with three rebounds.Â
