Hockey closes out season with loss to Bennies

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team closed out the 2023-24 season on Saturday evening against the College of Saint Benedict. The Wildcats fell to the Bennies 2-0 to finish the season 6-18-1.

"This was a good bounce back game for us", said head coach Brad Marshall. "We competed to the final buzzer. Our season ended but it ended on a positive note. We didn't end with a win, but it ended with our seniors playing very well and leading the way."

St. Kate's turned it around after a tough loss at home on Friday evening holding the Saint Ben's to 0-0 until eight minutes left in the second period. Senior goaltender Abby Severson held the Bennies off making 27 saves in the game until the final minute when they found the back of an empty net for the 2-0 win.

Senior Emmie Verhaagh and sophomore Lexie Hagen led the shot count for St. Kate's with three each as Maiah Robert, Lauren Henriksen, and Abby Pirkl each contributed two.
