MIDDLETON, R.I. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team secured the weekend sweep while in Rhode Island on Saturday topping Salve Regina University 3-2 in Middleton. The non-conference series ends with the Wildcats improving their record to 5-6-1 as they enter the second half of the MIAC season next week.
Madi Fleming put St. Kate's on the board with under two minutes left in the opening period with help from
Abby Pirkl and
Raechel Painovich. The Seahawks answered back 20 seconds later tying the game 1-1 after one.
It remained tied until Josie VanKyuk gave the Wildcats their second goal unassisted at 16:20 elapsed in the second.
Salve scored their final goal of the series 50 seconds into the third period bringing it to 2-2.
Abby Pirkl recorded the game winner on Saturday while taking advantage of the power play opportunity with help from Painovich.

Anna Friendshuh earned her first collegiate win between the pipes making eleven saves.
