ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team defeated the Hamline University Pipers at the hands of
Greta Schimnowski who was responsible for twenty-five of the Wildcats points in the 63-51 win. St. Kate's advances to 13-6 with a MIAC record of 9-5.
On top of Schimnowski's 25 points, the junior forward was 7 for 12 from the behind the arc to tie her personal best of seven three-pointers against Saint Mary's her rookie season. Her 25 point night was also the most points scored by a Wildcat this season. She also added a steal and five rebounds to the box score against the Pipers. Schimnowski was in the company of
Hattie Fox with 13 points shooting 100 percent from the three-point and free throw lines, plus three rebounds and an assist.
Emme Golembiewski and
Maddie Young led defensively with Golembiewski supplying nine boards to go with her three blocks with Young adding seven boards while each added two points.
It was a slow start on Wednesday evening inside of Butler Center with Schimnowski draining her first three in the sixth minute to take the lead, which the Wildcats held for the remainder of the game. St. Kate's led by eight after the first half of play posting an outstanding eight good three-pointers, another season-high for the purple and gold.
St. Kate's held Hamline to just 13 points in the third quarter as Schimnowski scored 14 of the Wildcats 21 points alone. The Pipers were able to get within ten to close out the conference match up for the 63-51 final.
The Wildcats return to Butler Center on Saturday, February 3 hosting St. Olaf for Senior Day at 1 pm.
