ST. PETER, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team faced the No. 2 ranked Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties in St. Peter Friday evening falling 2-1. 

Sophomore goaltender Anna Friendshuh made 30 saves in the game with senior Abby Pirkl and sophomore Raechel Painovich leading the shot count with three each. 

Gustavus scored 37 seconds after the first puck drop taking a quick 1-0 lead. They scored again at 11:04 of the second period to hold on to the two goal lead for the next eight minutes. Pirkl scored her seventh goal of the season with 30 seconds left on the clock in the second period. Pirkl's goal was assisted by first-year Sarah Wangen.

St. Catherine will host Gustavus on Saturday, January 27 at Drake Arena at 2 pm for game two of the MIAC series.
