ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Hattie Fox and
Emme Golembiewski were at it again on Saturday afternoon leading the St. Catherine University basketball team to an 86-75 double overtime win over the College of Saint Benedict Bennies inside of Butler Center. The Wildcats continue their five game win streak to improve to 9-4 overall with an MIAC record of 7-3.
St. Kate's trailed Saint Ben's by five after the first quarter after eight turnovers for the home team. The Bennies built comfortable lead for themselves headed into the half up by 12 while holding off the Wildcats for 20 straight minutes.
Coming out of the half, the Wildcats outscored the Bennies going on a seven point run led by Golembiewski and Fox. The energy carried into the fourth quarter as St. Kate's tied the score three times highlighted by a buzzer beater half court shot from Fox to force overtime.
St. Kate's took their first lead of the game with 2:53 remaining in the first overtime with a layup from Fox. The lead changed four times in five minutes with both teams scoring seven to head into the second OT tied at 70-70.
The Wildcats went on a run to open the second overtime as
Greta Schimnowski opened the period with two. Golembiewski put the Wildcats up by three with a layup with 3:30 left before Schimnowski struck again with a three pointer to go up by six. St. Kate's was 100 percent form the free throw line when it counted the most as
Rachel Randleman gave the team a seven point lead, Golembiewski put the team up by nine and
Kaylee Miron added the final two free throw to win by eleven.
Fox remained in double digits for scoring again supplying 21 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Golembiewski had a career high 19 points with seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and one steal. Randleman had a day with eleven points shooting 100 percent from the free throw line plus adding six boards. Schimnowski, Miron and
Maddie Young each added eight.
Fox is third overall in the conference in scoring earning the past weeks MIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week honors. She leads all players so far in free throw percentage making 72 of 82 so far this season. Schimnowski also sits a top the conference leader board with the top three point field goal percentage sitting at .471. This weeks MIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week was awarded to Golembiewski for the third time this season as she leads the conference in blocked shots tallying 30 so far. This is the first time in program history the Wildcats earned both offensive and defensive athlete of the week honors.
Next up for the Wildcats is a non-conference game at home against Saint Mary's University that replaces one of the games originally scheduled against Carleton College. The Wildcats and Cardinals tip off at 7:30 pm on Monday, January 15.
