Wildcats split with Cardinals on the road

WINONA, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team traveled to Winona on Friday to face the Saint Mary's University Cardinals taking game one 11-2 before falling in game two 7-2. St. Kate's advances their record to 9-11 and 3-1 in the MIAC. 

GAME ONE | St. Catherine 11, Saint Mary's 2
Senior catcher, Julia Azure was 1 for 4 with 3 RBI and two runs plus a double in the first game as sophomore Sarah Posey went 2 for 4 crossing the plate 3 times along with a double as they combined for 5 of the team's 11 runs. St. Kate's tallied seven runs in the first two innings going up 7-1 headed into the top of the third. Saint Mary's added their final run of the contest in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run. St. Kate's went on to add two more in the sixth and two more in the final inning with ten hits total in the game and zero errors. 

Junior Erica Pronschinske played the complete game in the circle giving up six hits and walking one plus collecting one strikeout to earn her third win on the season. 

GAME TWO | Saint Mary's 7, St. Catherine 2
The Cardinals turned it around in game two posting six runs in the bottom of the opening frame. St. Kate's tried to rally back in the top of the second bringing two runs in. Neither team was able to score again until the bottom of the sixth as the Cardinals tallied their final run. 

Kaitlin Boyles and Sam Aronson were responsible for the team's two run as Taylor Brunn was credited with the team's lone RBI. Riley Leonhardt pitched six innings allowing seven runs walking two and striking out one. 

The Wildcats will host the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul with the doubleheader starting at 11:30 am.
