ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team picked up their second straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) sweep with two wins over the Macalester College Scots on Tuesday evening. St. Kate's picked up a 6-4 win in game one followed by a 1-0 defeat of the Scots to close out the series. The Wildcats improve to 13-11 overall with the win while advancing to a 7-1 MIAC record.
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 6, Macalester 4
The Scots struck first in the bottom of the opening frame before the Wildcats posted a three run inning in the top of the second. St. Kate's added three more runs in the top of the fourth while the Scots rallied to add two in the bottom of the fifth and final run in the bottom of the seventh.
Sarah Posey went 2 for 4 in game one with 3 RBI and one run while
Taylor Brunn was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI.
Erica Pronschinske picked up her fifth win of the season in the circle allowing four runs and tallying two strikeouts.
GAME TWO | St. Catherine 1, Macalester 0
Game two was a slow start for both teams as the Wildcats and Scots were scoreless until the top of the seventh inning with the Wildcats bringing in the winning run. Senior
Julia Azure drove in the solo run of the game bringing in rookie
Sam Aronson for the win.
First-year
Riley Leonhardt earned the win in the circle pitching a complete game with four strikeouts.
The Wildcats are scheduled to host a doubleheader against Carleton College on Saturday, April 15 with the first game set to start at 1 pm.
