Hockey claims thrilling 3-2 OT win over St. Olaf

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team improved to 11-7-2 after a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory of the visiting St. Olaf College Oles. The win moves St. Kate's into fifth-place in the MIAC standings with a conference record of 5-6-2.

After an uneventful first 25 minutes of play, senior Marie Reimer put the Wildcats on the board scoring her first career short handed goal at 15:10 off the clock in the second period registering her eleventh of the season.

St. Olaf knotted the contest up under two minutes into the third period holding a 1-1 game for the next 13 minutes of play.

Junior Lauren Henriksen gave the Wildcats the lead again with just over five minutes to play off a quick and impressive pass from rookie Raechel Painovich who combined with Paige Loidolt to make the play.

The Oles tied the contest again under the two minute mark in the third while on a power play plus player advantage with an empty net for the black and gold to force the three on three sudden death overtime.

Senior Laura Denchfield was the game winner in overtime scoring an unassisted goal 25 seconds into the extra period to end the game.

Senior goaltender Elizabeth Kubicek earned her eighth win of the season and 20th of her career making 23 saves on Friday.

Senior Kaitlyn Blair led the shot count for the Wildcats with five on net just ahead of Reimer who fired off four.

St. Kate's travels to Northfield to close out the conference series on Saturday with a 3 pm start time against the Oles.
