Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team went 1-1 on their final day at the Mankato Dome picking up a 3-0 win over Bethany Lutheran after falling to Luther College by one in eight innings. The Wildcats closed out their dome games with a 4-4 record overall and will now break from games until The Spring Game March 19-23rd in Florida.
GAME ONE | Luther 5, St. Catherine 4 (8 innings)
The Norse struck first in the second inning and again in the third to take a 2-0 lead over the Wildcats early in the game. St. Kate's took over momentum in the top of the fourth inning with a triple from
Alyssa Montero to drive in
Julia Azure and break the Norse lead by one. The Wildcats were able to hold off the Norse in the bottom of the inning before posting two runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead off a single from
Taylor Brunn. Luther tallied another run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings as the result of an error at second to tie the game at 3-3.
Sarah Posey added a run for St. Kate's in the top of the eighth inning scoring off a wild pitch but the Norse put up back to back doubles scoring two runs for the win.
GAME TWO | St. Catherine 3, Bethany Lutheran 0
The Wildcats second game was scoreless until a big inning in the bottom of the sixth with a double from Kaitlín Boyles to drive in Montero followed by a triple from rookie Hellen McKinnon bringing in
Sam Aronson and
Serena Lee. Junior pitcher
Erica Pronschinske claimed the win allowing seven hits and zero runs in seven innings.
Next up for St. Catherine is their annual spring break trip traveling to Florida for eight games starting March 19. The team's first series in Minnesota is scheduled for April 1 at Saint Mary's and they will open the home season on Wednesday, April 5 against the defending MIAC Champions, Bethel University.
