MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team defeated the Concordia College Cobbers on Sunday afternoon by a score of 8-1. The Wildcats improve to 2-1 claiming their first MIAC win of the season.
Kelsey Dorr and
Sofia Walker edged out Raquel Egge and Mary Skorich 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles match.
Elsa Joly and
Monica Zink recorded the same score at No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 win over Lizzie Allan and Anna Hacker. In the final doubles match,
Erica Wing and
Anna Luksik defeated Eri Borchard and Emily Savageau 8-5 heading into singles play 3-0.
At No. 1 singles was Dorr facing Egge with winning set scores of 6-2, 6-4 and Walker took down Skorich 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2. Joly had a battle at No. 3 singles winning her first set 6-3 before falling 1-6 to force a tiebreaker set. Joly claimed the win in the tiebreaker 10-7.
Monica Zink was the victor at No. 4 with a match score of 6-0, 6-1 and Luksik edged out Lizzie Allan 7-6, 6-1. The Cobbers lone win was in the No. 6 singles match with
Lily Vang falling 2-6, 4-6.
The Wildcats will face Macalester College on Friday, March 3 at Baseline Tennis Center at 7 pm.
