Wildcats fall to top ranked Gusties

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Catherine Basketball team falls to the No. 13 ranked Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties in their second to last game of 2023. With a final score of 89-39, the Wildcats now rank  in the conference.

The Gusties came out hot in the first quarter, pushing ahead of the Wildcats quickly. Greta Schimnowski helped St. Kate's put up a fight scoring 2 3-pointers early in the first quarter, finishing with a score of 32-15, Gustavus in the lead. The second quarter proved to be a tough fight as the Gusties and Wildcats kept their distance, the Golden Gusties leading 50-22 into halftime. 

Heading into the third, the Wildcats started out strong to pull themselves closer to the Golden Gusties who had a 28 point advantage. Gustavus scored 21 while St. Kate's scored 6 to end with 71-28. In the fourth and final quarter, the Wildcats rallied to put up a strong fight against the Golden Gusties scoring the closest all game. Closing out with 11 points added, St. Kate's surrendered the win to Gustavus, battling to the end for a final score of 89-39.

Greta Schimnowski was the lead scorer of the Wildcats, closing out with 11 points, 1 steel and a 75% for 3-pointers. Hatti Fox and Kylee Miron were close behind scoring 6 and 5, while Miron contributed 1 steal. Sydney Elliot and Rachel Randelman both stood at 2 steals, Randleman offering 2 assists while Elliot had a 100% free throw percentage. To finish of the game, Karis Zezza gave 2 assists and Julia Herman a 100% free throw percentage to the Wildcats.

The St. Catherine University Basketball team will return to action on December 30th against Buena Vista University.
